Hugh Freeze to Make $65 Million at Auburn
New Contract Worth $65 Million Over Six Years
Deal Includes Power Five-Friendly Buyout
Auburn has announced a six-year, $65 million contract for Hugh Freeze to become the Tigers' new head coach. The details of the contract were released by the school on Friday.
Freeze will make a base salary of $6.5 million in each year of the contract, according to an Auburn athletics official. He will also be eligible for various bonuses, including performance-based incentives and participation in bowl games.
The contract also includes a Power Five-friendly buyout clause that allows Freeze to leave Auburn if he receives an offer from another Power Five school. The buyout amount is reportedly $28 million.
Freeze's previous contract at Liberty was set to expire after the 2028 season. However, he reportedly agreed to a new contract with Liberty that will pay him an average of more than $4 million per year through the 2028 season.
Freeze is a former head coach at Ole Miss and Arkansas State. He led Ole Miss to a Sugar Bowl victory in 2015.
