Celtics Trade Spree

Porzingis Extension, Smart Departure

In a flurry of moves, the Boston Celtics have traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards, signed Marcus Smart to a two-year, $60 million extension, and acquired Tyus Jones from the Memphis Grizzlies as part of a three-team deal.

The Celtics received two draft picks in exchange for Porzingis, who had been a key piece of their rotation since his acquisition from the Dallas Mavericks in 2022. Smart, a fan favorite and a key contributor to the Celtics' success in recent seasons, was traded to the Grizzlies for a future first-round pick.

The Celtics are hoping that the moves will help them contend for a championship this season. They have added a talented young player in Jones, who is a proven scorer and passer, and they have locked up Smart, who is a valuable defender and leader.

The Wizards, meanwhile, are hoping that Porzingis can help them make a playoff push. The 7-foot-3 center is a talented scorer and rebounder, and he should be a good fit alongside Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma.
